Not exactly prochoice....

Contrary to what "prochoice" activists say, just because a guy does abortions doesn't mean he's any friend to women, or a champion of choice. Pravin Thakkar stands as an example. Three of his patients indicated that he seduced them, then forcefully aborted the resulting pregnancies.

I wish people would stop citing Pravin Thakkar in their abortion arguments - His crimes had NOTHING to do with whether abortion is right or wrong or whether it should or should not be legal. Thakkar's were crimes of power over women - just like rape. How do I know? **I** am one of the many women he attacked back in Indiana, and I testified at his trial in 1992. He was charged with 2 illegal abortions and 1 attempted illegal abortion because those were the only charges with enough physical evidence to get convictions. However, at the emergency licensing hearing before criminal charges were even filed, over a dozen women came forward and testified against him for various forms of sexual assault - some for seducing, impregnating and then attempting abortions. Some testified under oath (including patients and former employees, etc.) that there was no relationship involved -- he molested or actually raped them on the table during examinations. One young woman went to him at the age of 14 for strep throat, and he insisted on a lengthy breast exam. Another woman later reported that he came to her home and violently raped her in front of her child. Even as an intern in Ohio, he was accused of sexual improprieties with patients and was dismissed for being nowhere to be found while one of his post-partum patients bled to death. He was NOT an abortionist but a just violent psycho who was willing to do whatever it took to try to eliminate any physical evidence of his attacks (i.e., pregnancy). It was a matter of power, control, degradation and violence over women. Thakkar did not see females as human beings worthy of an afterthought. During his trial, he was diagnosed by a court-appointed psychiatrist as a true sociopath who was totally self-absorbed and had no sense of guilt or remorse over his actions. To use his crimes in arguments in the abortion debate is like using a rapist as an argument against extramarital sex.

This comment is directed to the person who wrote about being a woman who was attacked by Thakkar.

I am curious to know more about this case, as I am a psychology student. I have read about a few cases of doctors who abuse their positions of trust and this seems to be an extreme case.

Thank you for responding - if you see this message.

  3. Everything I know about Thacker is in the link.

You can also go to the RealChoice site and look up Lawson Akpolonu. He was a real doozie.
