Seek and Ye Shall Find: Dr. Turow

Again, I checked what people were searching for and found somebody searching for "dr turow great neck". I'm not sure this is the Dr. Turow they were looking for, but here's what I have on Dr. David Turow.

Turow performed the fatal abortion on Kathleen Gilbert, and provided inadequate aftercare that allowed Dorothy Muzorewa to bleed to death.

A suit by Leslie R. alleged that she underwent an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid on October 29, 1987. The abortion was unsuccessful, so Turow did another on November 12, again failing to kill the fetus. He did yet another unsuccessful abortion on December 2. Leslie suffered pain, cramping, inability to walk, and hemorrhage. She was admitted to the hospital for surgery to complete the abortion. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 88L19367)

Kimbra K. sued, alleging that Turow performed an incomplete abortion on her January 21, 1984. She said he failed to give her appropriate post-operative instructions, and failed to diagnose her post-operative symptoms and give her proper care. She suffered excessive bleeding, cramping, and a high fever. She called the clinic on January 24 to report her symptoms. Turow phoned in a prescription although Kimbra indicated that she felt too ill to go pick up the medications, "He didn't seem to believe that the bleeding was a serious as I had described," she said. Kimbra called again on January 25, and said the bleeding had slowed but persisted. Turow did not return her call. Kimbra was taken to an emergency clinic later that day due to hemorrhage. The doctor called Turow, and reported that Kimbra was in shock, with dangerously low blood pressure. Turow recommended more of the prescribed medication, and told them to send Kimbra home. The emergency clinic doctor instead sent Kimbra to a hospital by ambulance. She had to undergo a D&C. Turow called Kimbra at home after her discharge from the hospital, and requested that she report to him for follow-up. Kimbra said, "I told him that I didn't trust him and had found another doctor." (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 84L 9809)

A suit by Christina H. alleged that she underwent an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on July 17, 1983. Christina faulted Turow with failure to render proper care, and failure to remove necrotic tissue. Christina suffered pelvic infection and hemorrhage. She required hospital, surgical, medical and nursing care. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 85L 14364)

Susan P. sued, alleging that she had an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on June 26, 1982. She sued over Turow's failure to take a proper history, obtain consultation and assistance, and to adhere to standards of care. Turow had informed Susan that the abortion was unsuccessful. Susan returned July 10 per his instructions for a second procedure, during which she suffered a perforated uterus. She alleged inadequate follow-up, and failure to provide a proper post-op exam. Susan needed surgical treatment, performed July 16 in a hospital. She was left with recurring pain and a surgical scar, and her subsequent pregnancies can not be delivered vaginally. She also sued for lost wages. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 84L 13350)

A suit on behalf of minor Nancy K. alleged that she submitted to an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on July 13, 1982, then endured a second attempt to abort the pregnancy by Turow at Woman's Aid on July 27. The suit alleged lack of informed consent and inadequate pre-op examination. Nancy suffered a perforated uterus and required corrective surgery. After her ordeal, she suffered from depression (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 84L 13625)

Cathleen M. alleged that she underwent an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid on December 2, 1982. Her suit faulted Turow for performing an abortion "at a time in plaintiff's pregnancy when it was unsafe and dangerous to do so" and failure to take proper antiseptic measures. Turow discharged Cathleen from the clinic without a proper examination. She suffered a perforated uterus and septic shock, and endured a hysterectomy and premature menopause. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 83L 13861)

A suit by Sula L. alleged that she submitted to an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid on August 11, 1981. The procedure was repeated by Turow at Woman's Aid on August 22. Sula faulted Turow with lack of informed consent, failure to take her history properly, failure to order appropriate tests, failure to render proper post-op care, and unspecified permanent injury. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 88L 23040)

Peggy D. alleged that during her abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on February 24, 1979, Turow failed to remove the fetus, control bleeding, and diagnose her perforated uterus. Turow had pushed the fetus into Peggy's abdominal cavity. Petty was hospitalized, "in great pain, sick and injured and bleeding." (Cook County Circuit Court Case No 79L169059)

A suit by Roxann A. alleged that she had an abortion performed by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on November 17, 1979. Roxann faulted Turow with failure to provide skilled staff and failure to terminate her pregnancy. She underwent a second abortion to terminate the pregnancy. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 81L24043)

Linda K. sued after an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on June 7, 1979. Linda returned on July 12, and was advised that the abortion had been unsuccessful. She was admitted to the hospital on July 16 to complete the abortion. She faulted Turow with failure to conduct a proper examination, failure to diagnose her condition, and failure to monitor her symptoms. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 79L 20392)

A suit by Jelena P. alleged failure to diagnose ectopic pregnancy in a 1978 abortion by Dr. Breslar and follow-up by Turow at Woman's Aid.

Adrianne K. underwent an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on May 12, 1977. Her suit alleged failure to maintain clinic and records appropriately, and noted that Turow's staff was lacking in training and ability. She faulted Turow with failure to exercise ordinary care and diligence. Adrianne complained of severe pain to the recovery room nurse, and Turow prescribed pain pills. Adrianne called on May 14, and returned to the clinic per telephone instructions. Turow diagnosed a tipped uterus, and prescribed pain pills and rest. On May 18 Adrianne called the clinic, then met Turow at the hospital per instructions, where "he advised her that she was hemorrhaging," and prescribed antibiotics and rest. Adrianne faulted Turow with failure to hospitalize her. Adrianne had suffered a perforated uterus, pelvic abcess, peritonitis, recurring infections and high fevers. She required a D&C at the hospital, and lost work time. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 79L 10033)

A suit by Marianne W. alleged that she underwent an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on June 17, 1976, but it was improperly performed, and repeated July 1. She suffered a perforated uterus and retained tissues. She faulted Turow with failure to properly observe her and provide appropriate treatment. She ended up needing a hysterectomy. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 78L 8125)

Diane V. alleged that she underwent an abortion by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on May 25, 1974. She suffered a perforated uterus and hemorrhage, and required medical and hospital treatment. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 76L 10066)

A suit filed on behalf of Keely K., age 14, alleged that she underwent an abortion of her 9-10 week pregnancy by Turow at Woman's Aid Clinic on December 27, 1973. The fetus and other tissues were retained, causing severe infection. Keely was hospitalized on January 1, 1974 for a D&C. (Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 75L15616)

According to the Illinois medical board, Turow was never disciplined. He is now deceased.
