Yuck! Ick! Eeeeeewwww!

Fetus eating abortionist story regurgitated :: Abortion :: ProLifeBlogs The Kansas legislature is trying to pass a bill allowing unannounced in spections of all Kansas outpatient clinics, just to try to shut down places like this. The governor, who appears to be in George Tiller's back pocket, is fighting tooth and nail against anything that upsets abortionists. Just click on the link and look at those pictures. Does that look like a medical facility to you? Here are some other examples of nastiness: Peeking into an Abortionist's Fridge
The cover of the examination table was dirty and torn. The suction machine container and tubing were dirty and stained. Thamrong's abortion patients were treated in procedure room replete with unsterile instruments, expired supplies, soiled gauze, a dirty speculum, and soiled suction tubing. The facility had no emergency equipment. Patients were sent for recovery to a room that contained two recliner chairs, a disused autoclave, a tray full of instruments to be sterilized -- and nothing that could be used to check their blood pressure. And let's not forget the refrigerator. It contained: expired medications, three syringes, a dirty carving knife, a specimen envelope containing a tube of blood collected 22 days earlier, one mostly-eaten salad, one partially-empty bottle each of Coca Cola and Sunkist soda, a bottle of Yoo Hoo, a half-full bottle of Riuniti peach wine, and a quarter-full bottle of Asti Spumanti with a paper towel stuffed in the top.
Diane Sawyer and the Non-Story of Lawson Akpulonu
It turns out that had Diane Sawyer decided to look into this "non-story," she'd have found a history of filth and quackery. [Inspections] of Akpulonu's facility had found:
  • "Filthy rest room with no toilet paper"
  • "Reports of unsterile instruments being used in operating room" ...
  • Blood on floor and curtains of the operating room ...
  • "Employees were trained to clean hoses used in medical procedures in running cold water by working the hoses manually to flush out all blood and tissue." ...
  • "Employees were trained to dump tissue jars into the sink and run the contents through the garbage disposal."
  • "All instruments were rinsed in cold water in the sink and put in the autoclave, which was rusty and too small to permit closing of the lid when the instruments were in it" ...
  • "The clinic smelled of rotting tissues, the surgery room was splattered with blood and some other rooms were filled with dust."
  • "Rat droppings were found in the surgery room and in the hall." ...
  • "Repsondent brought his entire staff into the examination room to observe a patient who had a severe case of genital warts." ...
  • Fetuses less than 18 to 24 weeks were flushed down the garbage disposal. ...
  • Staff were ... flushing fetuses of less than five months down the toilet. ...
  • Staff were re-using single use equipment "such as plastic equipment inserted in patients' vaginas and tubing that transported products of conception." ...
  • A dirty autoclave containing rusty, dirty, tissue-encrusted instruments ...
  • No soap, antiseptic, or towels at hanswashing facilities
  • Back Alley Butchers vs Main Street Maimers
Former employees of Dr. Sidney C. Laughlin alleged that he performed illegal late-term abortions in a bedroom of his home, across the street from an elementary school. Upon investigating the allegation, police found a dismembered 16-week fetus in his trash. .... A nurse who claimed to have assisted in 4 or 5 abortions in his home said Laughlin sterilized abortion instruments in his dishwasher. .... Equipment found in Laughlin's home included suction machine, medications, and an exam table. .... Laughlin also denied that it would be improper or illegal to perform abortions in the doctor's home. .... Dr. Joe Bills Reynolds was a jack of all trades, doing a variety of elective surgeries, including abortions, in his filthy clinic. ... Reynolds' anesthetist, age 60, had originally been hired as a janitor, and an untrained orderly was acting as his nurse. The operating room was littered with dirty cups and papers. .... Blue Coral Medical Center was temporarily shut down under an emergency order describing "deplorable conditions," including:
  • a suction device with "green mold" growing in it ....
  • stirrups covered with blood .... An inspector was quoted as saying, "When we got there, there wasn't any soap in the place, so our inspectors had to go next door to wash their hands." Ladies First Medical Center was temporarily closed by the board of health in 1989 "after finding dead cockroaches in a sterilizing room, unsanitary surgical gloves, expired drugs and bloody equipment." Inspectors also noted:
  • "Bloody equipment, though abortions had not been performed in the two days before the inspection"
  • a mop that reeked of dried blood in the sterilizer room
  • no hot water and no soap at the clinic's sinks
  • a device that is inserted into patients' noses during general anesthesia was found on the floor, still hooked to a hose that had been used on a patient
  • supposedly sterile gauze pads that were stained yellow
  • patient records left in plain view
  • dirty socks on recovery room shelf .... The Health Secretary described Ladies First as "just filthy, the worst I've seen." One of the inspectors told a reporter, "I spent years inspecting clinics in prisons all through Florida. And we wouldn't have waited a minute to close a prison clinic long before it ever looked this bad. I couldn't believe how bad this place was." ....
  • Abortionist Ronachai Banchongmanie
The receptionist would give each patient an unlabeled paper cup and send her down the hall to a restroom shared by other businesses in the building. Rather than using a lab, the receptionist would do a pregnancy test at her desk and would orally give the patient her results, in the waiting room with no privacy. The receptionist would then dump the urine into a lidless glass coffee jar on her desk. When the jar filled with urine, the receptionist would go down the hallway to the public restroom and dump the urine. .... During the investigations, patients and their mothers were observed weeping in the hallway and reception area. They were not provided with counseling or even with a private area. The investigation report described the facility as "dark, dirty, and drafty," with loose or missing floor tiles in the hallways of both the first and fourth floors. Carpets were littered and filthy. Ceiling tiles were dirty, missing, or water stained. Rooms were cluttered with unused furniture and supplies. The restrooms were dirty, with missing toilet tissue holders or broken. The room for preparing sterile supplies was filthy, "cluttered with unused, discarded equipment and stock supplies." The walls were chipped, peeling, and dirty. Garbage was overflowing from trash cans onto the floor. Equipment was wrapped for sterilization in stained wrappings, and too much equipment was loaded into the autoclave when it was used. The patient dressing room had brown stains, consistent with blood or Betadine, on the chair. Blankets and recliners in the recovery room were not changed between patients, and staff were not sure if pillow cases were changed between patients. Clean and soiled linens were stored together. .... Surgical equipment was lying about on dirty, dusty trays. Medications were stored in a dirty, unlocked cabinet in the recovery room. .... Improperly labeled and out-of-date tissue specimens were found in the refrigerator.
State Reports 'Shocking Disregard' For Patients At Midtown
An affidavit from a 31-year-old College Park woman said when she went for an abortion Feb. 21, 1998 conditions were so crowded women were lying on the floor and on chairs after labor had been induced, screaming in pain without any monitoring by staff. One woman gave birth in a bathroom that day, according to the affidavit. The College Park woman, who was there from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., said blood and urine were everywhere and staff stepped over patients lying on the floor. .... An affidavit from a former employee who worked at Midtown Hospital from November 1996 to February 1998 said, "I routinely saw patients expel fetuses on the floor and in the commode in the preoperative room. Patients expelled fetuses in front of other patients that were awaiting procedures. Patients expelled fetuses in commodes that were used by other patients. Patients would leave the preoperative room looking for nurses and come into the discharge area where I would assist them into one of the two bathrooms in that area. I regularly observed patients expel fetuses in the commode in the discharge area. I saw a fetus that had a foot as long as my hand. I saw another fetus with a full head of hair. Oftentimes, I was the only staff member in that area to assist the patients. I do not have medical training." .... Twenty-three percent of all abortions in Georgia in 1996 were performed at Midtown Hospital. .... "Interviews with patients accentuated the deplorable conditions at Midtown Hospital," the court documents said. "All nine patients interviewed stated that they did not see a physician prior to being on the operating room table...All nine patients interviewed reported that they heard other patients screaming...Seven of nine patients reported that they witnessed spontaneous expulsion of fetuses in various areas within Midtown Hospital, including the commode, the floor, the corner of a room, and a hallway." .... -The sterilization process to prevent spread of infection was severely deficient. For example, a sterilizer was not working properly, women in patient gowns sat on torn vinyl chairs that were not cleaned, attendants were not wearing surgical caps and masks. ....
    Welcome to Dadeland
Other allegations raised in the report included that Dadeland was reusing disposable instruments, that the doctors were leaving the facility while patients were still in recovery, that there were no nurses on staff, and that "Patient recovery was monitored by employees with no formal health-care training." Even though the doctors left the premises while the patients were still in recovery, the patient charts said, "Discharged by doctor." The article also said that the stirrups on the procedure tables were covered with blood, and that the oxygen mask had lipstick on it from the previous patient. ... One patient, "Nellie," told the Miami Herald that she went to Dadeland for a pregnancy test in 1989. They told her the test was positive, and she cried, but decided to have her abortion elsewhere because Dadeland "was really dirty and gross. I saw a big roach there." When she went to the other facility, they did their own pregnancy test, which came back negative. A physical exam verified that Nellie had not been pregnant.
    Beverly Moore, Abortion Death
Chattanooga Women's Clinic was written up for continued deficiencies even after Beverly's death. Noted flaws included (with dates of citation): ....
  • Re-use of disposable curettes (3-12-87) ...
  • Unwrapped speculums stored in examining table drawer (6-18-87)
  • Used disposable curettes stored on shelf with clean supplies (6-18-87)
  • Blood in procedure table (10-10-89)
  • Dirty floor and equipment in lab (10-10-89)
  • "[O]ut of date sterile instruments are in autoclave area" (6-18-87)
  • "Sterile instruments in treatment room observed to have stains" (4-6-92)
  • Post Roe Practice: Is This an Improvement?
At East Tennessee Women's Clinic inspectors found that the receptionist was assisting with procedures. Medical records were stored pell-mell in an upstairs closet. IV needles and packages of curette tips were in a box with dead bugs that was just sitting out on the floor. The waiting room and treatment room had dirty floors, there were cobwebs and dead bugs on the recovery room floor, and the floor in the instrument cleaning room was described as "blackened." Inspectors found no soap or paper towels in the lavatories. The beds in the recovery room had soiled sheets and blankets except for two reddish-stained beds with no covers on them at all. .... At Hedd Surgi-Center, inspectors found poor sanitation and infection control, unlicensed and unqualified staff, out of date medications, mold on the breathing tubes, and mouse droppings in the operating room. .... .... A woman described her legal abortion by Joseph Rucker. She arrived at 10:30 AM for her appointment, but Rucker didn't arrive until 5 PM. His "eyes were swollen, with big circles around them. And he had these fingernails that were a half-inch long." Rucker walked into the room, did not speak to the woman but just began to examine her then instructed an aide, "Knock 'em down." The woman awoke in recovery. A woman, later identified as Rucker's wife, "comes in. She's wearing a halter top and shorts, and she starts sticking me in the arm, trying to get some blood." The woman's fiance reported that a dog was let into the operating room. The dog sniffed at the woman as she lay bleeding and lapped blood off the floor. When the fiancee complained, Rucker snarled at him, "That dog lives here. This is my house, and that is my dog. That dog can go anywhere in this clinic that he damned well pleases."
    K.B., Legal Abortion Death
The operating rooms were found to be ill-lit, and there was no soap or paper towels at the scrub sink. The scrub sinks were stained, the walls and floors dirty, trash was stored in the scrub room. There were red make-up stains on the oxygen masks and nitrous oxide masks, dusty tubing on the suction machines, and blood on the wheels of the operating table.
    Inglewood: Charting the Deterioration
    Inspectors [noted]:
  • dust along ledge, ceiling, and fixtures in recovery room
  • eroding plaster wall by handwash sink in OR
  • peeling and/or chipped paint in OR
  • torn and/or stained window curtains
  • upholstery torn on OR surgical table and stool And yet Inglewood remained open for business. And in January of 1987, Belinda Byrd died.
  • But let's not worry about these trifling things! It's much more important to crack down on those horrible CPCs!
