Let's Make a Deal!

Why didn't I think of this before?

You know what abortion clinic "counseling" reminds me of? Anybody remember that old game show, "Let's Make a Deal!"? Monty Hall would give somebody a sure thing -- say, $50 -- then offer them a chance to trade the sure thing for what was behind Door Number One, Door Number Two, or Door Number Three. There was a prize behind each door. Some doors held nice prizes -- major appliances and such. Some doors held interesting but odd prizes -- a bicycle built for five, perhaps. Other doors held booby prizes, things so worthless I can't recall what any of them actually were.

When a woman walks into an abortion clinic, she gets about as much information about abortion, adoption, and parenting as she'd get from Monty about what is behind the various doors. The difference is, that in the abortion clinic, they pretend to tell her.

Door Number One is parenting her child. This is the sum total of whatever fears she has, regardless of whether those fears are valid or not.

Door Number Two is making an adoption plan. This will totally crush her spirit and probably hand her baby over to abusive parents.

Door Number Three is abortion. No downside here! She gets to keep her sure thing -- the path her life had been on.

Then she has to make her choice. Lots of pressure is on her to choose quickly. Hurry! Prices go up every week! Risks go up every week! (I mean, they're teenie weenie and nothing to worry about, but still....) Hurry! Pick a door!

But a woman's life isn't a game show. If she picks the wrong door, she's not losing a chance to win a washer and dryer. She's losing her child, perhaps her fertility, maybe even her life.

Why do we allow Monty Hall to run abortion clinics, and pretend we're doing women a favor?
