Family Sues Cruise Line After Woman's Death
Ashley Barnett, age 24, was on a cruise with her boyfriend, who had smuggled methadone aboard in a bottle of cough syrup. Preliminary reports indicate that Ashley drank the cough syrup, which she knew was tainted, and died of an overdose. The boyfriend said she'd been despondent over a recent abortion.
The investigation is still ongoing. The woman's parents are suing the cruise line for an unreasonable delay in sending medical help with a defibrillator when Ashley's boyfriend called to report that she was unresponsive.
