I posted a response. (I have since started formatting it as an ordered list and putting in the links, by popular request):

Twenty bucks says my comment will get nuked within the week, if not within 24 hours.

  1. Well, dog my cats! The post wasn't taken down. Anji simply replied that she's just compiling illegal abortion deaths. So I told her to take Nancy Ward off the list, since her death was retroactively declared legal, therefore safe, and I guess that means that Nancy is no longer dead.

Or at least her being dead no longer matters.

  2. Well, since she wants ALL verified illegal deaths, I pointed out that Jennifer Suddeth's death was coded as an illegal death, perhaps because her abortionist was charged with manslaughter in her death.

Myrta Baptiste's death was counted as illegal by the CDC, since her abortionist's license was suspended when he killed her.

And Angela Sanches's abortion was also illegal. The clinic owner was posing as a doctor and did her abortion.

Of course, Ms. Free Safe (sic) and Legal Abortions will no doubt add the NAMES to her list and not bother telling her readers that the women in question believed their abortions were legal and therefore safe.

Good grief Christina, did they have to go back two centuries to find these women? Weren't we told that women were dying by the thousands from illegal abortion and that's why we have Roe? Certainly they could have found more up to date deaths to prove their point. Why do they need the services of an archeologist?
Back then people also routinely died of scarlet fever, diptheria, childbirth, pneumonia, and ear infections. Dying of old age was pretty much unheard of!
Abortion advocates just can never seem to comprehend that you cannot compare medical care now to a hundred, fifty, twenty, or even ten years ago.
Why no mention of the more up to date list of women dying from legal abortion?
Simple, the deaths of these women are not politically expedient.

    Bingo.

I don't play that game. If I learn of an abortion death, I write it up and put the woman in the Cemetery of Choice. I don't pick and choose which ones I think prove some point I'm trying to make. I give people the truth, even truth that "the other side" can use for ammo. If I have to lie or be selective with the truth to make my argument, there's something fundamentally wrong with the argument.

    grannygrump,

Much to your credit you do not play that game. I find it interesting that abortion advocates cannot come up with more up to date names. Weren't we told women were dying by the thousands prior to Roe? OK, where are their names and wouldn't one prefer to use them, to prove a point if nothing else.
What this proves is that women weren't dying by the thousands, or even hundreds. As I pointed out these deaths occured in an era when medical care is not comparable to what it is today and people routinely died of disease and injury that could be treated today.

Twenty bucks, you're on. Though I'm sure it will be gone long before.

  6. Anon, she got them from me. I did the research, then she went through and picked and chose: This one is an unacceptable tragedy, that one is no big deal.

    GG,

Your research was excellent and yes, she certainly picked and chose.
Some women's deaths mattered, others were not politically expedient, so we'll treat them like the embarassment they are and ignore them.
I mean, they're more concerned about women who died over 100 years ago than they are about women who died 10 years ago.
I just have to wonder why abortion advocates can't do their own research and find more up to date names, like 1972, just prior to Roe. After all, they are the ones who claimed women were dying by the thousands prior to Roe. OK, so where are the names? Why do they have to pick and choose from your research? What better way to prove their argument than to list the numerous names of women who died up until Roe?
In fact, GG, those illegal abortion death numbers were contrived and the American public deceived.
If anything GG, your research would show the death rate from illegal abortion steadily declining prior to Roe.

  8. Anon, my earliest legal abortion death was 1961, Erica Peterson. 1970-1972 were particularly fruitful for the Grim Reaper, with New York and California legalizing abortion on demand, especially with the way New York had virtually no oversight. Read more about that here.

As for the idea that "free" (read "taxpayer funded" abortions are somehow a panacea for horrible death, consider that Sharon Hamlpton's abortion was a "freebie", as was the one that killed Diana Lopez.

It's all about getting social sanction for what they want to do, and has nothing to do with anybody's actual well-being. If it was about the women's well-being, they'd not be starting legal defense funds for the likes of the guy who killed Sharon Hamplton.

    GG,

Thank you for the links, very informative and interesting. I remember reading about the chaos in New York following the legalization of abortion. Dr. Nathanson described it in his book.
In my hometown, during the early days of legal abortion, when there was little regulation, a drug addicted abortionist and his wife took late term referrals from other areas.
Apparently those doing the referrals didn't concern themselves with where they sent these women.
In a lawsuit, a patient and her companion both swore in affadavits that they saw a dog walk around the procedure room during the abortion. When interviewed by the reporter, the abortionist naturally denied any dog had been in the room. When the reporter asked where two different people would get the notion of a dog, the abortionist replied that they must have heard him referring to one of his patients. When he was asked if he always referred to his patients as "dogs", the abortionist replied "if you saw what they sent me from Chicago, you'd see what I mean".
We have this very naive notion that legalizing something puts the criminal element out of business. All too often, it only makes it easier for the criminal element to conduct their business.

  10. Well I'll be dipped! My post is still there! If it's still there in two days I will have lost my bet!

BTW, per request all the legal abortion deaths now are linked to the women's respective pages.

I have already built pages for all the categories of illegal deaths, and this is the first time the legal deaths got their own page, which is why I'm not taking the time to put the links in the illegal deaths.

  12. I remember hearing stories from Canada's notorious abortionist Henry Morgentaler that he'd seen whole maternity wards filled with women who were suffering from illegal abortions.

I've heard that from other abortionists, too.

I'm wondering if anyone had ever checked out their stories, ie. the complications due to illegal abortions, not necessarily the deaths.

  13. I would love to do some research. I get the feeling that what some cities had was a strong pro-abortion subculture that kept the wards full by promoting and even performing abortions, then bitching about how full the wards were.

I know that when I went through the Homicide in Chicago Database, I was stunned by what a revolving-door justice system they had. Butchers would be freed to kill more and more women. There had to be an attitude somewhere of "They're just doing a public service" and lettin them loose. The coroner was pushing hard for prosecution, the prosecutors were going after them full tilt and the juries were convicting (the first person sentenced to die in the Illinois electric chair was an abortionist who had killed a patient), but the convictions were being overturned or something.

This is something we need to look long and hard at before Roe goes. We know from the response to the vote in South Dakoat that we do have a huge subculture of abortion-worshippers who will be perfectly willing to find any quack who will do the deed, will be willing to break the law to get women to them.

Enforcement will have to be taken very seriously, and frankly women need to get to where they won't put up with it.

We also need to get it out of our heads that we're dealing with a homogenous group of women. There are the hardcore aborters -- women who celebrate abortion as a right and who could just as easily have their babies but simply choose not to. Then there are the women who get caught up by the hardcore aborters, who in their zeal don't notice that these women don't WANT abortions.

There are a lot of dynamics we need to address if we're gonna make it go away. (Which it never 100% will. No human evil can be entirely stamped out by merely human means. Even slavery endures after virtually everybody in the world has come to recognize it as an abomination.)
