Abortion as art. Please tell me this is a sick joke and not for real.

Not news: College student has multiple abortions. News: For a school project. Fark: Art project.

For senior, abortion a medium for art, political discourse

Yale art major Aliza Shvarts spent nine months artificially inseminating herself then using herbal concoctions to induce abortions. She captured these Kodak moment on video, along with the blood (and presumably the dead embryos), and has used them to put together an "art" project.

The goal in creating the art exhibition, Shvarts said, was to spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body.

No, the goal was to attract as much attention as possible. Which she has done. If there was a Nobel Prize for Media Whore, this chick would win it, hands-down.

(It's interesting, BTW, that both Shvarts and the Yale student paper refer to her deliberate abortions as "miscarriages". Why is it that people who have no problem with the act of abortion have such a hard time with the word?)

The Yale paper will probably nuke the article as soon as it draws enough disgust, so I saved it. Let me know if you need a copy. You can also read a portion on National Review Online.

PS. I googled this chick. She has also contributed an essay about her first period to a web site somebody started just for collecting such stories. I guess menstruating lost its fascination once the novelty wore off and she had to up the ante somehow.

I am pro choice and I find this absolutely and positively sickening. Horrifying. Shame on her and shame on the university for sanctioning this.

    Appears to be a hoax.

Good thing, since she claimed to have procured her abortions with herbs, which probably would have landed her in the emergency room.

She still needs a psychiatric examination.

  13. Mary is right.. I have been practicing NFP for 10 years and I know how hard it is to know when you are fertile and how much harder it can be to intentionally get pregnant. To be able to do it at all takes lessons on how the body functions and ovulates and then implants with a child.. I sincerely doubt this girl had the where withal to even succeed once. More likely she has had a past abortion and is reinflicting the trauma. Thats my guess anyway.
