I guess we'll be cancelling the next Olympics

We are no longer permitted to reward athletic excellence by showcasing the best, because it might hurt the feelings of the kids that aren't as good. Next step: Eliminating Olympic teams, since having "Olympic" athletes hurts the feelings of those who don't make the team.

Didn't Kilgore Trout write a novel about something like this?

Well, they do have a point that children should be playing to have fun.

On the other hand, by 9-to-12 there ought to be at least some recognition that some are better than others. Otherwise, the kids are being set up to come down hard.

  3. Bingo, marycatelli. If we were talking about 4-year-old T-ball players, having All-Stars would be kinda mean. But my brothers played Little League and one of them made All-Stars every year and the other didn't, and went to cheer for the one that did. We were proud of Wally for being an excellent athlete.

There's no shame in being average, but there is in dragging everybody else down to your level because you're not as capable as they are.
