"CNN Money" Lists 5 Freedoms You’ll Lose Under "ObamaCare"
By Doug
No, you read that right. It’s not Fox News reporting this; it’s CNN. Even if you believe Fox News Channel is the broadcast arm of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, you don’t have that excuse to hand-wave this away.
The article is here, but here’s just the main list of items:
1. Freedom to choose what’s in your plan
2. Freedom to be rewarded for healthy living, or pay your real costs
3. Freedom to choose high-deductible coverage
4. Freedom to keep your existing plan
5. Freedom to choose your doctors
CNN details how these freedoms will be lost, in spite of protestations from Obama and his backers. These freedoms would be lost in either of the two main bills; one in the House and one in the Senate.
This is not just about covering folks who don’t have insurance, and millions of whom indeed don’t want insurance. It’s about government control of the industry.
Here's a particularly telling quote from CNN:
In short, the Obama platform would mandate extremely full, expensive, and highly subsidized coverage -- including a lot of benefits people would never pay for with their own money -- but deliver it through a highly restrictive, HMO-style plan that will determine what care and tests you can and can't have.
Liberals and left-leaning individuals often cry out for the government to stay out of medical decisions and for less government regulation of medical decisions (more private regulation?) and yet this is exactly what's going to happen under Obama's health care plan, the government's going to be calling the shots.
ReplyDeleteOC, I agree, the medical insurance companies are greedy and I have to fight my medical insurance company tooth and nail to pay for basic preventive care, none-the-less emergency treatment (so where are my monthly premiums going?) But I disagree that the solution is to put control of health care in the hands of our government.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't respond to hypotheticals, only reality, and reality is my living grandmother at almost 80 is healthy, active, and not on on any prescription medications due to healthy lifestyle choices along the way, thank-you-very-much!
ReplyDeleteI have a small update on the prayer request I gave here recently.
ReplyDeleteI talked to my friend last night and she has done some abortion injury research herself and on the grounds of safety said that she will reccommend to her pregnant friend not to go through with it. She also told me that when she talked to her friend last, she could tell that she didn't want to have an abortion.
I'm thankful that this lady already knows in her heart that abortion is not something she really wants. I'll continue to pray that she resists her boyfriend's pressure to abort and I thank you for all your prayers. There's still hope for this mother and child. :-)
You really need to subscribe to Sojourners' email alerts. They're pulling out all of the stops to get Progressive Christians to support Obamacare.
ReplyDeleteHere's a snippet from their latest missive:
The faith community is uniting to let our neighbors and our nation know that we will not settle for less than making sure that everyone is covered.
Last Wednesday, 140,000 people of faith participated in a call that Sojourners helped organize about health-care reform. President Obama and Jim Wallis spoke, along with local pastors and people affected by the health-care crisis. The amazing response to this call is proof that our country is desperate for a message of hope, and the faith community must lead the way.
For the record, I am deeply committed to Christ, so I suppose I would be a part of the faith community. Jim Wallis does NOT speak for me, and it's quite arrogant of him to claim otherwise. I will accept a health-care system that does not cover everyone. There, I said it.
Some people don't want to be covered. They're young & healthy, and they don't see a need for medical care. I think that's silly, but why should I force medical care on them? Other people don't carry their own insurance, but they ride on someone else's coverage. Still other people don't believe in modern medicine, and they choose to treat themselves with herbs, homeopathy, accupuncture, or other alternative therapies.
(I took homeopathic remedies and accupuncture treatments when I was a kid. They didn't kill me, but I don't think they made me healthier, either....)
Finally, as a Christian, I choose to live in the real world. Here in the real world, I understand that sickness is always a possibility, we will always have the poor with us, and there's no such thing as a perfect solution until we get to see Jesus face-to-face. So claims of universal coverage ring false to my ears ... because I know that there will be trade-offs to make it happen. Rationing, state pressure against the weak, massive cost overruns, long waits for medical care of any kids ... these are just some of the problems that I can anticipate with so-called universal health care.
One more snippet from the Sojo email:
The media is focusing on a small group of critics of health-care reform, but surveys show that the majority of Americans know the current system is broken and want Congress to fix it. Sojourners is working to make sure the voices of the majority of Americans are heard. We know the outcome has serious moral implications.
First, there's the ludicrous claim that the MSM are somehow supporting Obamacare's critics. Pshaw! Anyone who doesn't know that the MSM is complete "in the tank" for The One is either delusional or joking.
Second, Sojo's numbers are utterly misleading. They've committed a typical fallacy. Just because a bunch of people agree that our health-care system has a problem, that doesn't mean they agree on the solution. In fact, the support for Obamacare is not a majority at all, and it's falling fast. Yes, people think that health care is broken. NO, that does not mean that they think Obamacare is the answer.
