‘Crack babies’ defy mother’s curse: Despite dire predictions, most are now thriving adults, or, as FARK put it, "Remember the EVERYBODY PANIC about crack babies? Turns out they have not grown into super-predators. They're not even permanently inferior deviants mired in a life of perpetual suffering"
Moral: Don't be so ready to write off a kid just because he got off to a rocky start.
You are right--the war on crack, like the war on drugs generally, is a scam.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say the "war on crack" was a scam. I said the war on CRACK BABIES was a scam.
ReplyDeleteThe whole war on drugs is a scam.
ReplyDeleteBack when Reagan campaigned on it, everyone knew the vice-presidential nominee's son (George W. Bush) was an all-day, every-day cokehead.
Gotta agree with you on the "war on drugs" thing. It's a way of punishing people in advance for crimes you think they might commit. It makes no more sense than criminalizing dating because it might eventually lead to domestic violence.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I don't think crack (or heroin) is a good thing. But I think the "war on drugs" discredited the anti-drug people, preventing potential users from hearing that THESE drugs really ARE dangerous. Unlike pot, that just makes you hungry and stupid.
