I found this on Louisiana's Medical Malpractice Acts, but would need to look at the text of the bill to see in what ways doctors are "no longer covered" under these laws. Does it mean that the doctors will pay out of pocket? Probably. Injured women could probably take everything the doctor owns, including his abortion business, though.
Not being "covered" by the laws may also remove any caps for damages and also the statute of limitations for filing charges -- it depends on how the new law is written, since current law has these things in place.
I haven't read it, but what it means to me is that less doctors will be willing to perform abortions due to the risk of malpractice suits. Less doctors = Less Abortions! That's a good thing in the fight for the right to life for the unborn.
Judging by the article, it looks as if docs won't be able to insure themselves against errors while doing routine abortions.
This is not necessarily bad for the abortion docs, believe it or not. I know some docs in high-risk fields who would prefer NOT to carry insurance, only carry insurance because the law forces them to do so.
If you're insured, then lawyers can collect big settlements from your insurance company, so it makes you a target for ambulance-chasers. If you're NOT insured, then if someone sues you you just declare bankruptcy, don't pay, the ambulance chaser has wasted his time. So being uninsured protects you from lawsuits.
The whole thing is a non-issue anyway. The days of the free-standing, for-profit abortion clinic are numbered.
All the money stuff, including malpractice coverage, is going out of the hands of the docs, into the hands of the corporate coverers (HMO's etc.)
As far as I'm concerned, if you live in Louisiana, chances are you're so dumb you don't deserve quality care anyway.
OC, I've spoken out often enough on the topic. Do you not note that I called what he did "evil". Because it was. We're not supposed to do evil. But neither should we be astonished when one evil act leads to a snowballing of more evil acts.
We had a guy in our town who was part of a drug ring, and they had a young woman who was running drugs for them and she was holding out on some of the money, so they capped her and dumped her body and torched her car. What they did to her was evil, it was murder, and I hate that the one guy was able to plea bargain out of the murder rap. But should it come to any of us as a surprise that two drug dealers killed somebody who was holding out on them? No. Why? Because evil begets evil. You can't breed two hippos and get an ocelot. Evil will not beget good; it will beget evil. And you significantly reduce the odds of evil befalling you if you avoid doing evil yourself.
OC, you are such a shining example of what you get when you scratch the veneer of "prochoice", that I'm gonna let what you say stand in all its ugly glory.
Hmm, interesting. Maybe a bit of both.

The future: your abortion will be done by a salaried employee of your covering-corporation (HMO or whatever).
ReplyDeleteOFF TOPIC POST:
ReplyDeleteChristina likes to post about women who suffer violence from boyfriends who want them to have abortions.
Well here's a case where a man killed his girlfriend for HAVING one.
"You killed my baby so I'm killing YOU!"

Yeah, OC. He killed her because she killed his baby. Evil begets evil. I think I'm gonna have a heart attack and die from that surprise.
ReplyDeleteSo you think she deserved to be murdered? You think he should go free?
ReplyDeleteSeems like typical right-to-lifism: if they don't get their way, they commit murder.

Sure, you babble about "evil". But underneath all the babble, what you are doing is justifying terrorist murder.
ReplyDeleteYou deserve to be terrorized your own self. I hope a terrorist will come and kill your children.
Teach you some respect.
Feel the LOVE!

ReplyDeleteAlong with this wonderful gem, GrannyGrump?
I could say soooo many things in response to this quote, but I don't really want to stoop to that sort of flaming. :-) It's not nice.
