NAF clinic nailed in Louisiana

Ah, yes, the National Abortion Federation! Who the heck are they? I'll let them say it in their own words:

NAF is the professional association of abortion providers in North America. Our member clinics care for more than half the women who choose abortion each year in the United States. In order to become a member, a clinic must complete a rigorous application process. Member clinics have agreed to comply with our standards for quality and care, updated annually in our Clinical Policy Guidelines, which set the evidence-based standards for abortion care in North America. NAF periodically conducts site visits to confirm that our clinics are in compliance with our guidelines.

You can check out their Louisiana page and note that Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport is a member facility:

Look a little closer:

Now, what's the point of bringing up all this?

La. Officials Suspend Abortion Clinic's License:

The Louisiana health department ordered the Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport to immediately cease performing the procedures, saying an investigation found the clinic failed to ensure that a physician performed and documented a physical exam on each woman before a procedure. The clinic also failed to follow several procedures involving anesthesia, including not properly monitoring vital signs, the agency said.

Hm... Let's look directly at what the health department has to say:

Several violations were noted during a recent investigation of the facility, including the facility’s failure to ensure that a physician performed and documented a physical exam on each patient prior to a procedure, failure to properly monitor vital signs of patients under anesthesia, failure to have proper procedures in place for administering anesthesia and failure to have properly trained professionals performing certain medical procedures related to the administering of anesthesia.

Why is this a big deal? Because anesthesia screw-ups can kill you.

So! One more time, with feeling!

Member clinics have agreed to comply with our standards for quality and care, updated annually in our Clinical Policy Guidelines, which set the evidence-based standards for abortion care in North America. NAF periodically conducts site visits to confirm that our clinics are in compliance with our guidelines.

  • Failure to ensure that a physician performs and documents a physical examination on each patient prior to her abortion? Check!
  • Failure to properly monitor vital signs of patients under anesthesia? Check!
  • Failure to have proper procedures in place for administering anesthesia? Check!
  • Failure to have properly trained professionals involved in administering anesthesia? Check!

Either NAF's standards are so low that a snake can bang its head slithering under them, or they're not doing a very good job inspecting their facilities.

And on a completely bizarre note, worthy of Cracked.com or FARK, check out this page of their web site:

Evidently they cater to scary clown women! Yikes! That poster looks like a depiction of female disciples of John Wayne Gacy!
