Positioning Abortion

A provocative and insightful piece: Read it and comment.

Florida teen was pregnant to man nearly 30

According to this article in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the 13-year-old Florida girl who was judged to be "mature enough" to consent to an abortion evidently got pregnant while living with a man who was between the ages of 28 and 30.

"You rape 'em, we scrape 'em!" And the ACLU will hand them to you on a silver platter.

Op-R, tone it down!

Operation Rescue's blog is going off the deep end with this one: 2,000 Abortionists Under One Roof!
Imagine having all the abortionists in North America in the same place at the same time. Yes, every purveyor of child-killing in one location.

Well, first of all, hardly every abortionist in North America is gonna be there. A lot of them are cheapskate quacks who can't be bothered to attend medical conventions. Others will be going to NAF or PP or ACAP seminars to get their con-ed credits -- especially since this particular clinical gathering isn't even addressing abortion.

Second, they're not all abortionists, even under OR's rather loose "guilt by association" standards. One presenter, Dr. T. M. Goodwin, is presenting on Nausea and Vomiting During Pregnancy, a subject very dear to the heart of Ashli at The SICKLE Cell, since severe nausea and vomiting -- and how poor her care was -- wore her down until she ended up on the abortion table. Do we want to be attacking this guy, when he's a voice of reason, a voice for women like Ashli? And what about other docs who are there, like Dr. Goodwin, being salt and light? Attacking them as "abortionists" isn't just counter-productive, it's bearing false witness, which is breaking a Commandment. Last time I checked, God hadn't ranked the Commandments and said that we could ignore some while attacking others.

Another underhanded tactic OR is using is listing all the abortion-related presentations at last year's event -- ignoring the fact that there are no abortion presentations being given at this year's event. (And okay, there may be some instructions on when to do or refer for abortions, but address what's actually going on, not what they did last year.) We should be celebrating that they're not having a slew of abortionists instructing their fellows on how to better kill fetuses this year. This is progress, something to celebrate, and something we should be praising the ACOG for.

Let's be more credible, OR. And more honest.

Lest we forget - two abortion deaths

Today, May 5, we should pause to remember two of the beneficiaries of "safe and legal" abortion.

Gwendolyn Cliett, age 29, was about to undergo an elective abortion and tubal ligation at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia on March 5, 1980. She was 8 to 10 weeks pregnant. Before the proecdure could be done, Gwendolen reacted to the anesthesia and died.

Thirty-eight-year-old Ellen Williams went to the notorious Dadeland Family Planning for an abortion on March 2, 1985. Ellen returned to Dadeland reporting severe pain and high fever. The clinic owner, Betty Eason, gave Ellen some tea and summoned Chartoor Singh, who had done Ellen's abortion. Four hours later Singh arrived and had Nabil Ghali help him perform a second D&C on Ellen. They then gave her a prescription for antibiotics and sent her home. Ellen's pain and fever were so bad the next day that she was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. She quickly died of sepsis from a perforated uterus and bowel, leaving two children motherless.

Laws don't kill women. Abortionists do.

Go to Ragged Edges

Check out this excellent post, "Why I'm Anti-Abortion".

Not Just the Unborn

I've started a separate blog to address non-abortion issues that I'm passionate about, partly to give myself a place to address this stuff, and partly to let folks know that there's more to being a prolifer than being a "friend of the fetus." I've started with a post about long-overdue justice for Emmett Till, the 14-year-old boy who was beaten to death fifty years ago, for supposedly having whistled at a white woman.

Check the sidebar at the new blog for links to my "other issues."

Lest we forget -- 3 abortion deaths

On this date, May 4, we need to stop and remember the abortion deaths of three women:

"Robin", age 21, left two children motherless in 1972 when lingering complications from a February abortion finally claimed her life. She'd traveled from Massachusetts to New York to take advantage of the safe-and-legal abortions available there.

Maria Gomez, age 29, died after her abortion in 1976. Dr. John Blodgett claimed that Maria must have bled to death from an "old" cervical cut. The autopsy found otherwise. Maria's lacerated and gashed uterus still contaned the severed head of her unborn baby, and more than a quart of blood was pooled in her abdomen. Maria's lacerations had not been sutured, but her vagina had been packed with gauze.

Patricia King left five children motherless after her abortion at Dean Diment's filthy Oklahoma abortion facility in 1987. She was only 24 years old.

Laws don't kill women. Abortionists do.

Baby Rowan autopsy report

Operation Rescue has obtained and posted Baby Rowan's autopsy report.

As I suspected, there was no testing done of the fluid in Baby Rowan's lungs to see if he had inhaled water from the toilet. The lungs were simply weighed, then tied off and placed in water to see if they would float.

Is it too late to take Baby Rowan's lungs and see exactly what kind of fluid was in them? And why, since the mother's contention was that he'd been born alive into a toilet, did the medical examiner fail to test for exactly what kind of fluid was in this child's lungs?

Another point that supports the mother's story is that there were no signs of intrauterine death, such as skin slippage. There was also no puncture wound of Rowan's chest for the digoxin injection the abortionist supposedly performed to kill him in-utero.

To get an idea of Baby Rowan's size compared to preemies, check this Tiniest Babies site. Keep in mind that this is a site of babies whose survival was surprising because of their extreme small size, as small as 260 grams. Rowan weighed 480 grams. But Rowan's estimated gestational age was 21-22 weeks. Weight and age are important factors in survival, as is the baby's sex, since boys tend to be more fragile and less likely to survive.

Of course, had Rowen not been aborted in the first place, we'd not be having this discussion. The points here are:

1. Baby Rowan's life and death are further evidence against the abortion lobby's contention that later abortions are only done on ailing mothers or severely handicapped babies. Rowan's mom, and Rowen himself, were perfectly hale and hearty until the abortion.

2. It's interesting to me that the abortion lobby has a "Trust women!" motto, then they call Angele a liar. If women are so universally trustworthy, why don't they believe this woman? Is it because her story is one they don't like?

3. So much for not needing the "Born Alive Infants Protection Act."

Sad move for Florida teen

Not surprisingly, a Florida judge has approved an abortion for a troubled 13-year-old in state custody. The girl apparently opted for abortion after being "counseled" at a "women's clinic."

Juvenile Judge Ronald Alvarez (search) on Monday ruled that the teen, who has been in state custody for four years, would not be physically or emotionally harmed by the procedure. Last week, Alvarez blocked the girl's abortion until a psychological evaluation was completed.

He's not only a judge -- he's a psychic! He's able tp accurately predict that she won't be harmed! Evidently he's not done any research on risk factors for poor adjustment after abortions. Nor did the shrink he sent her to for an evaluation. Prayers that this girl finds help before it's too late, or at the least that she finds the help she needs to cope afterward, because God knows that judge and that shrink and the ACLU lawyers won't be anywhere to be found.

Elderly abortion advocate dies

Dr. William Rashbaum, specialist in late abortions at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan for many years, died at age 78 of cancer.

Brain-injured firefighter speaks after 10 years

Progress fuels hope of recovery for brain-damaged firefighter

Where there's life, there's hope!

A firefighter brain-damaged in a 1995 roof collapse had an "amazing" weekend, recognizing and speaking with his four sons and other family and friends for the first time in years, a family spokesman said Monday.

"I want to talk to my wife," Donald Herbert said out of the blue Saturday at the skilled nursing facility where he has lived for more than seven years. Staff members put Linda Herbert on the telephone.

Lest we forget....

Today, May 2, is the anniversary of a safe-and-legal abortion death.

Twenty-nine-year-old Kathleen Gilbert underwent an abortion at Women's Aid Clinic. She was sent home with a perforated uterus. She bled and passed clots for a month before finally bleeding to death on May 2, 1985.

Now that's just bizarre

A woman in South Carolina as jailed for doing a home abortion on herself with Cytotec she had her sister send her from Mexico.

Now, how can this woman be arrested for that, when the same thing would be legal if she'd have gotten the Cytotec dispensed by a "clinic"?

Does this make RU-486 abortions illegal in South Carolina, since they're done by the woman to herself? If so, when are they gonna crack down on them? If not, why are they going after this uneducated woman for doing what it's perfectly legal for educated women to do?

Don't get me wrong, I think she did a terrible thing, killing her baby like that, but there's no way she could have known that it was illegal, with abortion facilities advertising all over the place. No doubt she just thought she was saving money doing a perfectly legal thing by herself rather than call in a professional.

An effective outreach strategy

This article reposted at the Priests for Life site is a fascinating look at how research has led to more effective campaigns to promote a prolife message:

The summary report of the study bears the intriguing title "Abortion: The Least Of Three Evils-Understanding the Psychological Dynamics of How Women Feel About Abortion." The report suggests that women do not see any "good" resulting from an unplanned pregnancy. Instead they must weigh what they perceive as three "evils," namely, motherhood, adoption, and abortion.

Unplanned motherhood, according to the study, represents a threat so great to modern women that it is perceived as equivalent to a "death of self." While the woman may rationally understand this is not her own literal death, her emotional, subconscious reaction to carrying the child to term is that her life will be "over." ...the sudden intrusion of motherhood ...shatters their sense of who they are and will become, and thereby paralyzes their ability to think more rationally or realistically.....

Even those women who are likely to choose life rather than abortion do so not because they better understand fetology or have a greater love for children, but because they have a broader and less fragile sense of self, and they can better incorporate motherhood into their self-identity.....

In fact, while abortion itself is seen as something evil, the woman who has to make that choice is perceived as being courageous, because she has made a difficult, costly, but necessary decision in order to get on with her life....

Lest we forget... Robbie Lou Thompson

Today is the anniversary of the death of twenty-one-year-old Robbie Lou Thompson, who was one of a string of women to die in Oklahoma City in 1932 when two inept physicians set up shop near an Oklahoma City university.

Baby Rowan preliminary autopsy report

This report indicates that the county ME performed an autopsy on Baby Rowan and concluded that he was not born alive. But the report does not indicate on what finding that conclusion is based.

Florida is an open-record state for autopsies, so we can find more details when the full report is released.

World Magazine report on Baby Rowan

World Magazine's report on Baby Rowan indicates that they got transcripts of the 911 call and reports filed. They quote this exchange between the caller and the Orlando Fire Department dispatch:

Angele's Friend (AF): It's a women's clinic. . . . My friend is having an abortion and the baby was born alive. . . . They're not allowing her to use the phone there. They're wanting the baby to die!

OFD: She wants the baby to live?

AF: That's correct. . . . [She] said the baby was just born and it was alive and they were wanting her to leave it in the toilet and, uh, just let it die, and she's not wanting that to happen.

World also reports that the police had contact with Angele, but that the fire department EMS workers had no contact with any patient. Stay tuned for updates as I learn more.

Texas woman fighting to keep husband on vent

The Houston Chronicle is covering the story of a woman's second fight in two months to get her husband's feeding tube restored so she can transfer him back to a nursing home and resume long-term care. The man has been in a reduced state of consciousness since an automobile accident twenty years ago. He also needs ventilator support. Prayers for this family and everybody involved.

A happy ending

Today, April 29, is the anniversary of a far better ending than most abortion stories have. On this date in 1984, "Emily" gave birth to her full-term baby. She'd had a suction abortion performed by Basil Bisca on September 24, 1983. The lab report indicated very little tissue, indicating that the abortion hadn't killed Emily's baby after all. Happy 21st birthday to Emily's child!
