March 12, 1943: A Midwife Arrested in Chicago

Doris Morris was married to Sherwin Morris, a soldier stationed at Madison, Wisconsin.

Doris's mother, Lucy Ernst, testified that 20-year-old Doris had moved back with her parents after a fight with her husband.

According to her parents, Doris went to Midwife Jennie Sorci, age 70, on February 28, 1943 to undergo an abortion. The abortion was perpetrated at Sorci's home at 4131 North St. Louis Avenue in Chicago.

Doris took ill at home and was admitted to Chicago's Edgewater Hospital, where she died on March 12, 1943.

Sorci was held by the coroner, but I have been unable to determine if any further action was taken.
