Patricia Joan Vance had married James Curtis in July of 1957, as noted in a lavish wedding announcement published in the Zaneville, Ohio Times Recorder on July 9.
Patricia had graduated from New Concord High School and had attended Ohio State University. She worked as a secretary to the production manager of Champion Spark Plugs.
The bridegroom was a graduate of Cambridge High School and attended Columbus Business University and worked as a teller at the High-Tower office of Ohio National Bank in Columbus.
The marriage lasted over 12 years until their divorce on January 12, 1970 in Portland, Oregon. At that time James was working as a factory representative at a factory and Patricia was working as an inspector at Jantzen Knitting Mills.
Barely 9 months after the divorce, when Patricia was 33, she was pregnant and decided that she wanted to abort that baby. She never left the hospital alive.
According to killed-by-choice, abortion had legalized abortion if two different doctors decided it met legal exceptions, which included "mental health." Since Patricia's death certificate doesn't indicate anything other "other significant conditions," it's clear that there was no medical justification that those two doctors could have used. Likely the then-stigmatized outside-of-wedlock pregnancy was justification.
This "therapeutic" abortion was performed at 2:30 pm on September 9, 1970. During this abortion, the doctor poked a hole in the back of her uterus. Patricia began to hemorrhage.
It's unclear when the injury was noted, but it was clearly catastrophic because Patricia died shortly before 5 pm, just two and a half hours after she was brought into the operating room.

He treats the girls or women carrying children or devastated from their abortions as friends and neighbors in his home town, not afterthoughts.
