Let's assume the best of Eliot Spitzer

A Face Made 4 Radio made the uncharitable announcement that NY's Eliot Spitzer LOVES Late-Term Abortions! This pronouncement was based on a New York Times article, Rivals Sharpen Their Positions on Abortion.

I'll grant that Spitzer displayed appalling ignorance of how abortion is actually practiced in America. Here's the offending quote:
"There has been much debate about late-term abortion," Mr. Spitzer said moments later in his 17-minute address. "I want to be unequivocal that I support the right of a woman and her doctor to consider all necessary and appropriate options, including, as a last resort, late-term abortion when her life or health is at risk."

Let's credit Spitzer with meaning what he says. Let's present him with actual examples of late-abortion practice and ask him if these represent the abortions he's supporting.

Here's Spitzer's campaign site. (Somebody made an unfortunate selection of a photo; Spitzer looks like Jack Nicholson in The Shining, which seems kinda apt, given that he's getting attention for supporting brain-sucking abortions.) The email address is Spitzer@spitzer2006.com.

Let's start by reviewing Late Abortion Lies: They're Only Done for Health Reasons. (I'll not re-post here.)

Here are a few examples of late abortions we can present Spitzer with, asking him to clarify if this is what he has in mind:

  • Christin Gilbert (pictured), who died during a third-trimester abortion by George Tiller, who justified his actions to the medical board investigators by claiming that the abortion was being done for "health" reasons.

  • Magdalena Rodriguez, who died when Suresh Gandotra botched a 32-week abortion he was doing in his office, clinic, whatever-you-call-it.

  • Lou Ann Herron, who died during an elective abortion at the cusp of the third trimester, at the hands of an abortionist who'd already killed another patient and who'd gotten in trouble for trying to abort a near-term infant.

  • Denise Montoya, a 15-year-old girl who died of complications of an elective outpatient abortion done at 25 weeks.

  • Christina Goesswein, who died when Moshe Hachamovitch performed an elective 24-week abortion on her after-hours in his office.

  • Shanda P., who was injured during a third-trimester abortion done in P. Scott Ricke's outpatient facility.

And let's not overlook the late abortion scandal at Midtown Hospital in Georgia.

I was going to link to my articles about Steven Chase Brigham, but those got lost in the transfer when About.com nuked my site. I'll re-post that information for you over the next day or so.

Let me know which information you provide to Spitzer's people, and what response you get, if any.
