Searches: obstruction, teens, saline, videos, and more

  • intestinal obstruction back pain: Barbara Auerbach suffered back pain and an intestinal obstruction that killed her after her safe and legal abortion.

  • Teen abortion stories: This post highlights some of the most heart-wrenching cases from my library of cases of teens killed by abortions. For some non-fatal stories about teens and abortion, see Parental Involvement Won't Fix This, Cutting to the Chase: Underage Pregnancy, Finally Taking It Seriously, Parents: Choose Your Risk, Audio of woman's testimony about coerced illegal abortion, Abortion Survivor Lauren Pulliam, No Hope for Raped Teen at Hope Clinic, and Not Surprising.

  • saline abortion legal: An odd search request. Yes, they're legal. But they're also a really bad idea, even if you don't mind the death of the fetus.

  • Unbelievable 911 calls: I just have one story, of a dogged 911 operator dealing with hospital staff after a call to report an infant had been kidnapped.

  • Abortion videos: I have a great collection here.

  • 20-week fetus: I'm updating this post to include more information, since a lot of people end up there. And here is information on the fetus at 18 weeks.

  • longest anencephalic live?: I wish I knew. A related search is for Marcela de Jesus Galante Ferreira, reportedly the longest-lived child with anencephaly.

  • Milagros Cerron: Best known as The Mermaid Baby, born with sirenomelia, a condition in which the legs are fused. Like Tiffany Yorks, Milagros underwent surgery to separate her legs. The only other known survivor is Shiloh Pepin. Milagros is walking now:

  • Number of born-alive babies: The last time I know anybody in the United States made an estimate, it was Willard Cates of the Centers for Disease Control. He said that 500 births were being reported annually, but that this number had to be low because reporting a live birth from an abortion is "like turning yourself in to the IRS for an audit." (“The Dreaded Complication,” The Philadelphia Inquirer, August 2, 1981) You can go here to read some stories of these babies. And here is one of those babies, all grown up and speaking out:

  • Delta Women's Clinic Baton Rouge: A seedy abortion mill. Ingar Weber died after an abortion at Delta in 1990. Sheila Hebert died after an abortion there in 1984.

  • deaths that came from illegal abortions in 2004: I don't know of any. The most recent Centers for Disease Control Abortion Surveillance Report is for 2004, and they don't have their mortality data for 2004. Their most recent maternal abortion mortality data are for 2003, and for that year there were no illegal abortion deaths reported. However, there were 10 safe and legal abortion deaths confirmed. For 2004, I have the stories of Chanelle Bryant and Tamiia Russell (pictured), and I have no way of either confirming whether or not the CDC counted them. God only knows when they'll get around to noticing them. If ever.

  • Are abortions used as birth control?: No matter how you interpret the question, the answer is a resounding YES.

  • Coathanger abortion: A powerful image, but not true to life.

  • Palin rape kits: A tempest in a teapot. There's never been a shred of evidence that even one rape victim in Wasilla had to pay for a rape kit while Palin was mayor.
