Some folks have been dutifully blogging about how Dr. Reffat Kamel Abofreka recently -- finally! -- got his medical license suspended. Since he's evidently new news again for some reason, here is what I previously blogged about him. To be honest, I don't see why Virginia is getting their panties in a twist over this quack. I've seen worse who were allowed to keep practicing. The best I've been able to guess is that medical boards tend to use a light hand with quacks that say, "I'm so sorry. It'll never happen again," and to crack down on quacks who try to brazen it out. Though Steve Brigham, who the New Jersey medical board stopped just short of calling a psychopath, kept his license despite his lack of remorse or appreciation of his own shortcomings.

Well, actually, judging from the care he gave his patients he does abortions well past 12 weeks. Patient A turned out to have been 23.2 weeks pregnant. What other patients were past 12 weeks but didn't complain to the medical board we'll likely never know about. But back to the web site.
