Virginia Man Charged With Causing Girlfriend's Abortion With Spiked Drink
Daniel Riase, age 21, purchased two misoprostol pills online, crushed them, and put them in his girlfriend's drink. The woman, I-Sharii Best, began bleeding and drove herself to the hospital, where it was confirmed that she had lost the baby at 11 weeks.
Best told reporters that Raise had tried to pressure her into an abortion, but she had refused. Raise assaulted Best, but she dropped the charges when Raise began to pretend to be happy about the baby and supportive of Best's decision.
"I'm angry, and I'm upset, and I'm still a little shocked that it went this far," Best told a reporter. "He was acting like he was being supportive, but he was just putting on a front all along because he had already ordered the pills."
Riase faces ten to twenty years in prison if convicted. Best had taped a phone conversation in which he confessed to her what he had done. He is being held in Hampton City Jail without bond.
Prolifers, of course, are uniformly appalled at this -- though not particularly surprised. I imagine prochoice response will be all over the map, from "She saw this as her baby and he killed it -- they should throw the book at him!" to "It wasn't very nice, but it's not like he did any real harm." If they pay much attention at all. The abortion lobby doesn't tend to speak out on unwanted abortions.

Wow, that's horrible. I can see he didn't want the baby, but he drugged his girlfriend? How selfish!
You might like the Abortion Forums.
If someone ever did that to me, I don`t imagine I would have felt any sense of sadness over the loss of the pregnancy, since I wasn`t particularly attached to even my wanted embryos/fetuses, even late in my pregnancies.
However, I would certainly go after him for attempting to cause harm to ME, and my body, by slipping me drugs.
Scott, at least he didn't murder her. The most common cause of death in pregnant women is murder at the hands of a man who doesn't want to assume responsibility for the baby. I think a lot of this is because all the rhetoric about abortion being a "right" makes the woman who refuses to do it seem totally unreasonable. After all, who would refuse to exercise a Constitutional Right? The only reason must be that she's just being contrary and trying to screw him over! It can't be that she's in any way attached to the entity in the uterus because after all, it's only a nonviable, valueless blob of tissue!
Another reason I resent all the "women support abortion" rhetoric. Only certain women want abortion readily available -- slightly less than half -- and even fewer of them actively want to avail themselves of it. But to read and listen to and watch the MSM, you'd think that women were unilaterally enthusiastic about abortion, that they abort cheerfully and without hestiation, sadness, or regret, and that women who want to give birth are freaks, very much in the minority, and primarily doing it to be bitches and to saddle men with child support payments.
However, I would certainly go after him for attempting to cause harm to ME, and my body, by slipping me drugs.
Sometimes life is about much more than ourselves. This is upsetting beyond belief that someone would take their own child's life like this. I guess it happens everyday.
I wouldn't want to be the one answering to God on judgment day trying to explain how my selfishness destroyed the most priceless gift He ever bestowed on me.

Do you have anything to back this up? I have heard time and again that murder is the #1 cause of death of pregnant women, but no study I've read has gone so far as to qualify one reason for the majority of the murders.
Alexandra, I don`t think there are national stats on it, but I`ve seen lots of articles/studies citing data from individual states that support it, like this one:

Agreed, as a general statement -- but in order to kill an embryo, someone would have to violate the woman`s body first. Since the embryo`s legal status is up in the air (to say the least), it would make far more sense to go after this guy for attempting to cause grave bodily harm to the woman.
Tlaloc, if "pro choice" is about respecting the woman's choice, why should she only be permitted to agree with Tlaloc and her boyfriend that her fetus was of no value? If it's about her choice, ought we not to respect her choice to disagree with you and value her fetus?
What you're admitting, Tlaloc, is that by granting a absolute right to reject and destroy the fetus to those women who want to reject and destroy the fetus, we had to take away from the rights of the women who want to nurture and protect their fetuses. We've built society to give preference to those who want to destroy, not to those who want to protect.
Seems pretty backward to me.
Hmm, this woman's abortion seemed pretty freaking forced to me Tlaloc. She *choose* NOT to have an abortion, and then someone else came along and forced her into one. I don't see how you could possibly claim that his actions were not an afront to her will for her pregnancy.
Additionally, the legal status of a fetus is not unilaterally "non-person". Fetal homocide laws exist regardless of your distaste.
What disturbs me most about this case is the fact that someone found my website by searching a similar topic not long ago. I certainly hope this does not become a "trend".
This 19 year old female knew her life was not in danger. He liked her as a person. He just felt betrayed by her and didnt want the baby. He was frightened by it all. His future was up for the taking.
Her male friend had told her numerous times that he did not want to have children and that she was suppose to have been taking birth control. She tricked him because she wanted to trap him into it because she learned that he wanted to become a doctor.
She had gotten pregnant two time before by the same guy and she consented to an abortion in both. This time she wanted to keep the baby because she was sure it was his baby.
She is now dating another man, three weeks after her incident. It doesnt appear to me that she is greiving very much. She more than likely was dating someone else and was not sure of who the real daddy was. That was her reason for consenting to the first two abortions. This third time she knew it was this 21 year old man.
She is not the nice, clean, innocent person that you think she is.
Her shortcomings hardly justify killing her baby.
This is a good kid (Daniel), raised in a good two parent home with good christian values. We all arent perfect people. We all make mistakes in our lives. I dont agree with what he did, but there is always two sides to a coin. This girl agreed to two voluntary abortions before. I personally believe that she tried to trap a successful student with the ambitions of becoming a doctor.
So basically we had two people behaving badly, and a baby paid with its life.
If people stopped treating sex like it was a recreational activity, on a par with mini-golf or bungee-jumping, these sorts of things wouldn't happen so much. Sex is how people bond and how babies are made. Which grade school kids can grasp but which is lost on "sophisticated" adults.
i personally knew this young man adn i am very much against abortions but i can honestly say you dont know what anyone woudl do if they were stuck in a situation they were honestly to young to handle. I think the female should have been using protection way before maybe then she would not have gotten pregnant... I am sure she knew that he was not wating any kids before she got pregnant or did she get pregnant on purpose to trap him. i am not saying killing is right what he did was wrong but it is honestly not up to us to decide what should happen to him that should be for GOD to decide. (FOR SURELY YOUR SINS WILL FIND YOU) Daniel will always have my support maybe not my understanding but definelty my support as a friend.
First of all I was not trying to trap Daniel. He was abusive and he deserved what he got. That was my decision to keep my baby. He was a far ways from becoming a doctor...trust me. And whoever "anonymous" is...u damn sure dont know what I went through or what is going on in my life so u can shut that up. SERIOUSLY. Nobody was trying to trap him. it takes two people to concieve a baby. not one!
