A suit was filed on behalf of the 6-year-old son of
Jacqueline Reynolds, age 22. Jacqueline underwent a
safe and legal abortion at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta on August 27, 1986. Due to inadequate oxygenation during general anesthesia, Jacqueline lapsed into a coma. She died on September 5.
Her death was attributed to use of a mask for
anesthesia rather than an endotracheal tube. The case was settled for $3 million.
