Today's anniversaries

November 2 is the sad anniversary of the abortion deaths of Latachie Veal in 1991, and Karretu Jabbie in 1989.

Latachie was 17 years old, and 22 weeks pregnant, when Robert Dale Crist performed an abortion on her at Houston's West Loop Clinic on that fateful day. According to Latachie's family, she bled heavily at the clinic, and cried out to the staff for help. They told her that her symptoms were normal, and sent her home. Several hours later, Latachie stopped breathing. Her brother-in-law called 911 while her sister did CPR, to no avail. Latachie was dead on arrival at Ben Taub Hospital.

I don't know much about Karretu. Life Dynamics lists her on their "Blackmun Wall" of women killed by legal abortions. According to LDI, 24-year-old Karretu was from West Africa. She underwent an incomplete abortion and bled to death on November 2, 1989.

It's especially important to note that although Latachie's death was discussed by her abortionist at a National Abortion Federation event attended by two CDC employees, the CDC didn't count any abortion deaths among women of Latachie's death and age range for 1991. So much for their vigilance in noting abortion deaths.
