A Midwife's Work in 1920s Chicago

On December 13, 1926, 23-year-old Chicago native Mary Paradowski underwent a criminal abortion.  She died on December 20 at Chicago Hospital.  On January 15, 1927, midwife Josephine Petrova was indicted for felony murder in Mary's death.  Keep in mind that things that things we take for granted, like antibiotics and blood banks, were still in the future.
