He also looks at the acute care clinics that are springing up. He looks at one doctor who got sick of the red tape and expense that came with taking insurance and just stopped billing insurance. He has price lists and the patients pay directly.
My friend's doctor did this -- he doesn't take insurance any more and goes strictly on cash. While he mostly does cosmetic surgery now, he used to do mostly family practice and OB. Now, it's a standard $2,500 for a vaginal birth and $3,000 for a C-section.
