August 30, 1910: Mystery Abortion in Chicago

On August 30, 1910, Mrs. Ellen Shirah, a 34-year-old Irish immigrant and mother of two, died in Augustana Hospital in Chicago from septicemia gangrene and pelvic abscesses.

The coroner's jury determined that a doctor had perpetrated an abortion on Ellen about two weeks prior to her death, but did not name the suspect.

I've been unable to learn anything more about Ellen's death.
