Life News: Last Abortion Biz in Kentucky Will be Demolished

Life News reports: "Last Abortion Biz in Kentucky Will be Demolished"

EMW Women's Surgical Center was established in 1980 and was a member of the prestigious National Abortion Federation. That supposedly meant that it was the cream of the crop with the very highest standards.

Judging by some of their members, National Abortion Federation standards don't exactly constitute a very high bar. Let's just look at a sampling:

EMW Lexington
By early 2017, it was the last abortion business in Kentucky after the state closed their satellite clinic in Lexington. Why? This top of the heap National Abortion Federation member clinic was operating illegally without a license

The Louisville branch, however, remained in operation until the Dobbs decision enabled Kentucky to finally enforce their abortion ban.

Now the building is about to be demolished.

So  now that it's going, going, gone, let's look at some of the lowlights of this exemplary National Abortion Federation member clinic.

In 1986, an Indiana mother sued after a local Planned Parenthood arranged for her 16-year-old daughter to have an abortion at EMW for even though she had gotten a court order to block the abortion. The girl was hospitalized afterward for complications.

In 2002, their security guard went to prison after raping two women, one of whom he took into the clinic after hours to commit the assault.

In 2008 an EWB counselor was recorded by an undercover investigator lying about fetal development. saying that a 15 - 16 week fetus has no brain function, and that there's no brain activity at all until 18 or 19 weeks, even though brain function has been detected as early as 6 weeks and 2 days. The investigator, posing as an abortion patient, was told that the fetus was "not functioning yet," even though at that age the fetus is very active, kicking and squirming and curling her fingers and toes, inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid, sucking her thumb and swallowing amniotic fluid, able to blink and react to light, and able to hear.

In 2015 they were inspected and found not to meet the minimum requirements for relicensure. Findings included staff not being tested for TB; failure to properly train staff, failure to properly secure medications; controlled medications not being available when needed by staff because the key to the cabinet was hidden; a sharps container that was overfilled and covered by splatters of a dark brown substance; empty Propofol syringes thrown away in a trash can in the hallway; and soiled linens that should have been bagged up hanging over the edge of a linen cart.

EMW Louisville
In 2018 they were cited for failure to follow TB testing protocols, and for expired equipment and medications.

In 2019 they were cited for using single-use medicine vials for multiple doses, medications were not secured, medications were stored in the refrigerator with blood specimens, keeping the abortion pills unsecured in an exam room where they would be accessible to patients, pre-packing insufficiently labeled manila envelopes with abortion drugs, keeping other medications unsecured throughout areas accessible to patients, keeping pre-filled unlabeled syringes for use on patients, and staff failing to follow proper infection-control procedures between patients.

So, not great, but not horrible. I'm still glad they're closed.
