President Bush's latest budget he's submitted to Congress slashes federal funding for family planning -- promoting contraception in other nations.
It would do well to quote an engineer P.J. O'Rourke spoke to in Bangladesh: "People here do love their children. The way some aid workers talk, you'd think Bangladeshis don't have children for the same reasons the rest of us do."
Wisdom from the pen of O'Rourke himself:
This leaves us with the question of what people mean when they say the earth is overpopulated. What these concerned citizens usually mean is that they've seen a whole bunch of the earth's very ordinary people up real close, and the concerned citizens didn't like what they saw one bit.
More succinctly did he put it in the subtitle of his chapter on overpopulation: "Just enough of me, way too many of you."
