On April 14, 1932, Mrs. Isobel F. Ferguson died of suspected abortion complications. Two physicians in the University of Oklahoma area, J. W. Elsiminger and Richard E. Thacker, were suspected in the case.
Mrs. Ferguson was the first in a string of deaths pinned on Elsiminger and Thacker. The investigation into their practice also uncovered the death of Marie Epperson two years earlier.
The total number of deaths attributed to the duo, individually or together, was eight.
