Anniversary: Missouri citizens loose choice

On this date in 1976, Missouri Governor Christopher S. Bond rescinded the Extermination Order Governor Lilburn W. Bogg had signed on October 27, 1838. Missouri citizens were no longer given the freedom to choose how to deal with troublesome Mormons. Missouri citizens plagued by Mormons could no longer drive them off or kill them. What a blow to basic human rights! What a backward, retrograde reactionary was Governor Bond, to condescendingly decide that Missouri citizens were too stupid to make informed, responsible choices about how to cope with Mormons!

So get out the black crepe. Today marks a bleak day in Missouri's history.
