On April 22, 1923, 30-year-old
Daisy Singerland died at Chicago's Robert Burns hospital from complications of a criminal abortion performed earlier that day. On June 1, Dr. J.W. Lipscomb was indicted for felony murder in Daisy's death. Daisy's abortion was typical of criminal abortions in that it was
performed by a physician.
