Those lightning-fast folks at the CDC have finally released their
2004 Abortion Surveillance Summary. They didn't report their data for 2004 deaths; I guess this is an area of low priority for them so of course it can wait. They report 10 maternal deaths in 2003. I only know of
Leigh Ann Alford,
Holly Patterson, and
Vivian Tran. So there are at least seven women for whom abortion was the last choice they ever made, and their deaths went under the radar.
